Pakistan have been the best ODI team in the world many times, but now they want to find a good way to play and win the Cricket World Cup.

Winners (1992)

Pakistan did not play well at the start of the 1992 tournament in Australia and New Zealand. They only won one game and had one game with no result in their first five games.

They came back very strongly and beat some very good teams. They beat Australia in Perth by 48 runs, they beat Sri Lanka in the last over, and they beat New Zealand in Christchurch who had not lost any game before.

Four wins and one game with no result made Pakistan go to the semi-finals in fourth place. They had to play New Zealand again who were first in the round-robin stage at Eden Park in Auckland.

New Zealand made 262 runs and Pakistan had to chase them. Ramiz Raja and captain Imran Khan (both 44 runs) started well. Javed Miandad (57* runs) played till the end and Inzamam-ul-Haq (60 runs from 37 balls) and Moin Khan (20* runs from 11 balls) played very fast to make Pakistan win.

In the final, Pakistan stopped England from winning when they were playing very well in front of 87,000 people. Imran Khan (72 runs) and Javed Miandad (58 runs) made a big partnership of 139 runs after Pakistan lost two wickets for 24 runs. They made 249/6 runs after Wasim Akram (33 runs from 18 balls) played very well at the end.

England were playing well and made 141/4 runs, but then Wasim did something amazing. He bowled Allan Lamb who was playing very well and then he bowled Chris Lewis on the next ball. The left-arm bowler took 3/49 wickets and became Player of the Final as his country won the trophy.

The teams have beaten each other once in T20 World Cup games in 2021 and 2022, but India have played better in ODI games recently. They won the Asia Cup this year and they beat Pakistan easily at the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

For the Ahmedabad game, Shaheen Shah Afridi will have to bowl well with the new ball against Rohit Sharma and the India top order. Pakistan will also have to score well in the Powerplay when they bat.
